About ELMAA
“Every Little Movement” Academy of the Arts
”Let us first teach little children to breathe, to vibrate, to feel, and to become one with the general harmony and movement of nature. Let us first produce a beautiful human being, a dancing child.”
- Isadora Duncan
Every Little Movement is a school dedicated to teach dance and theater to children of any age and background. Our school, particularly the modern dance and creative movement classes, is profoundly inspired by the philosophy of the great mother of modern dance, Isadora Duncan.
ELMAA’s offers a variety of classes, with the goal of exposing children to different kinds of art, particularly performing arts, giving them the tools to work on a theme while fully expressing their own personalities. Children will be taught age appropriate techniques without loosing site of self expression and creativity. They will be given the chance to perform at least once per semester during our Dance Benefit for the Hoboken Shelter and they will have the great opportunity to perform along side professional dancers.
To be a child is to be joyful. Teachers at ELMAA use this joy to inspire their work and create with the children. It is important that our little barefoot dancers learn harmoniously and joyfully every day.
In the beautiful and peaceful space of St. John's church, ELMAA offers different classes weekly, from dance to theater to music. The space is fully furnished with bathrooms, showers and a wide room where to practice and have fun.
As ELMAA believes in sharing and helping others, parts of the proceeds of ELMAA's school go to to the Hoboken Shelter, located just below the church.
ELMAA is growing every year and our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the children. It is a true joy working with them and help them grow into the arts. We are very proud to be part of the wonderful Hoboken community.
”Every movement that can be danced on the seashore
without being in harmony with the rhythm of the waves,
every movement that can be danced in the forest
without being in harmony with the swaying of the branches,
every movement that one can dance... in the sunshine,
in the open country, without being in harmony with the life
and the solitude of the landscape – every such movement is false,
in that it is out of tune in the midst of nature's harmonious lines.
That is why the dancer should above all else choose movements
that express the strength, health, nobility, ease and serenity of living things.”
- Isadora Duncan
